20 down, 30 to go

I just got done with the first day of Challenge Walk. The weather forecast said it was going to be clear until 9 and then rain the rest of the day. Instead, it was raining this morning and stopped around 9:30.  I need to listen to my dad and ignore the weathermen.

Overall, it was a good day. I’m feeling a little crooked and no I have at least one blister on a toe, but it was a good day. I met a couple people along the way but my ipod was a crucial part of getting through the day.  Jeremy also happend to be driving down the road that our lunch stop. He called and told me that he saw walkers and two minutes later he drove up next to me.  The lunch stop was right across the street so I was able to eat lunch with a familiar face.

The other nice part to the day was that I never saw mile 1.  When I saw mile 2 I just assumed it was the start of the second mile not the end. So I thought I had one more mile to go then I really did all day. It was a pleasant surprise when the finish line came a mile early.

Now its time for a shower and maybe a nap. 🙂

If this is what the weathermen meant as windy, rainy, and cold…. I’ll take it.

CLYDE!

That’s the first thing I heard when I walked into registration. It was followed by, “Aren’t there two of you?”

These folks didn’t know my name, but they knew Clyde. (My dad’s cane that he named because that’s just the sense of humor that he has.)  I also got to tell them that the other half my two is home because she just had a baby. Yesterday!  Ella Louise arrived about a week early and she and Amy are doing great.

That’s the special thing about Challenge Walk. We all may not know everyone’s names, but we remember the stories.

My bags are packed for tomorrow. My many layers of clothes are ready to go. Ten more hours until Challenge Walk Year 5 begins. Time to get some sleep!

The night before

It’s past 12:30. I’m loading up my ipod.  I have eight hours of work to get in and I still have to pack before we leave for Door County at 5. Anybody know where I can buy some time?

5 days

I logged into my Challenge Walk fundraising page and there it was:

5 days until Challenge Walk!

And as different as this walk is going to be, I still have all the same feelings that I have every year.  I’m excited to see all the people I only see at Challenge Walk.  I’m feeling strong and healthy, but am also constantly terrified of tripping on something or running into something and hurting myself.  I’m feeling tremendously humbled and proud of the amount of money we once again raised this year, and still wondering how much more we can raise in the next week. And I’m also trying to figure out how I’m going to get everything done that I need to before heading up to Door County on Thursday night.

But everything will eventually fall into place. Four mornings from now we’ll watch the sun come up and start walking once again with the hope that one day, we’ll have a world free of MS.
